Production Supervisor

Description Our client in the Maritime / Fishing Industry based in Port Elizabeth is currently looking to employ a Production Supervisor.

Requirements:
  • Matric - Grade 12.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ Supervisory Experience.
  • Supervisory Certificate or Supervisory Skills Programme – Advantageous.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within a production manufacturing or processing in cold production environment.
  • Knowledge of production processes.
  • Knowledge of food safety and related industry legislation.
  • Knowledge of HACCP.
  • Knowledge of efficiency best practices.
  • Knowledge of Labour legislation (BCEA and LRA).
Responsibilities:
  • Managing and improving production processes to enhance product quality and maximize efficiency. Organizing and prioritizing production needs.
  • Identifying problems or bottlenecks in production processes.
  • Organizing and maintaining the chillers. Ensuring that raw materials have sufficient ice and that room temperatures are at correct levels to keep products safe. Reporting to management if the refrigeration system is not functioning.
  • Ensuring housekeeping in external areas in front of the chillers and grader. Avoiding the exposure of waste or by-products.
  • Ensuring that FIFO (First In, First Out) principles are applied in the grading and processing lines.
  • Feeding the grading machine with the required size of fish as specified by production.
  • Possessing basic knowledge of configuring and controlling the grading machine.
  • Ensuring that products are handled carefully and promptly during various processes. Making sure they meet the highest grade and production standards.
  • Ensuring that bins with graded raw materials are labelled accurately. Labels must include correct size, dates, vessel name, and batch number.
  • Organizing the appropriate number of staff in processing areas or lines as instructed by the production manager.
  • Supervising the processing line to ensure inputs are scanned accurately. Ensuring filleters have access to raw materials and tools without leaving their stations, while monitoring and controlling staff movements.
  • Maintaining input and yield figures above target levels and supervising hourly production.
  • Coaching and training new employees.
  • Ensuring products are packed according to grade and quality standards. Supervisors must know all product descriptions and requirements, ensuring no underweights or overweights, and that product presentation inside boxes is excellent.
  • Ensuring the correct labeling of final products, including accurate product name, grade, production date, batch number, and expiration date.
  • Ensuring products are packed in the correct packaging.
  • Supervising and controlling the complete freezing process, from packing into pans to off-packing. Ensuring boxes maintain shape, products freeze properly, and temperatures reach -18ºC or below.
  • Ensuring quick off-packing while maintaining product temperatures below -18ºC.
  • Minimizing waste generation in all areas. Reusing underweights from previous shifts, avoiding box breakage, and repacking products immediately when necessary.
  • Tracking staff absenteeism and timekeeping and applying discipline following proper procedures.
  • Ensuring the safest working environment for staff and actively working to eliminate hazards that may cause injury. Conducting accident investigations as needed.
  • Supervising factory cleaning when required, ensuring processing lines are in excellent working condition and food safe.
  • Addressing employee complaints and resolving problems. Suggesting and implementing cost-saving measures.
  • Ensuring paperwork is completed after every shift.
