HR and Payroll Officer

Description Our client based in Port Elizabeth is currently looking to employ a HR and Payroll Officer.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar HR/payroll role.
  • Relevant certificate or diploma in Payroll/HR management (advantageous).
  • Extensive knowledge of Payroll Systems, ESS, Efiling, and Easy file (minimum 150 employees).
  • Familiarity with South African labour laws, tax regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience using Time Attendance (Biosyn) system (advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of SARS, UIF, WCA, and SETA procedures.
  • Knowledge of Bargaining Council (NBCEI) and Provident Fund processes.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Strong mathematical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
Responsibilities:

40% Payroll and 60% HR

  • Process full payroll for approximately 200 employees.
  • Utilize payroll software and ensure compliance with statutory requirements (SARS, UIF, COID, SETA, etc.).
  • Manage payroll processes including leave, overtime, garnishee orders, provident fund, and medical aid.
  • Process additions, terminations, and workmen’s compensation.
  • Prepare payroll reports and ensure accuracy in reconciliations.
  • Administer time and attendance systems.
  • Handle HR queries and prepare necessary employee correspondence.
  • Maintain employee records both manually and electronically.
  • Oversee employment contracts, disciplinary processes, and performance management.
  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
  • Assist in employment equity and training committee activities.
  • Administer and coordinate learning and development programs.
  • Prepare and update HR documents, policies, and legal compliance paperwork.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including exit interviews.
  • Ensure SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) compliance, including medical renewals and injury reporting.
  • Maintain HR records and compliance with internal systems.
  • Use Microsoft Office 365 for communication and reporting.
  • Ensure payroll and HR documentation is up to date and accessible.
  • Keep all notice boards updated for effective communication.
  • Ensure a professional and organized work environment.
  • Maintain project files and coordinate HR-related initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding HR matters.
