Health and Safety Officer

Description Our client in the Logistics Industry, based in Camperdown (KZN), is currently looking to employ an experienced Health and Safety Officer.

Please note: This position offers a salary of R15 000 CTC monthly. 


Requirements:
  • Suitable qualification in Safety Management. An advanced diploma in Safety Management will be advantageous.
  • Minimum five years’ work experience in Health and Safety. 
  • Registration as a Health and Safety Officer is essential. 
  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures.
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for Health and Safety. 
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistic. 
  • Proficient in MS Office. 
  • Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus. 
Responsibilities, but not limited to:
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  • Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
  • Write and implement policies and SOP where necessary.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
  • Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment).
  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  • Evacuation plans and emergency drills.
  • Implementation and Management of Health and Safety systems.
  • Meet targets.
  • Assist with all day-to-day health and safety activities.
  • Provide risk assessment, audit review, monitoring & managing health and safety.
  • Provide investigating reports for all incidents and accidents within 12 hours and must include corrective measures and the way forward.
  • Identify any shortfalls in and/or potential improvements to policy and process, assess effectiveness of current policies and processes and recommend and help implement required changes.
  • Maintain and improve mechanisms for risk assessment and disseminate feedback as appropriate.
  • Train and appraise individual team members to ensure targets are met.
  • Provide monthly reports to Management.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Control expenses to meet agreed budgetary controls.
