About the Role:

A profitable, well-established retail store and fuel station located 25km west of Port Elizabeth is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the full bookkeeping function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting business operations through timely and precise financial information.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full bookkeeping function to trial balance

• Capturing and reconciling supplier and customer invoices

• Managing debtors and creditors

• Bank and cash reconciliations

• Capturing daily fuel and retail sales

• Preparing VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns

• Assisting with payroll processing

• Inventory management and stock reconciliations

• Assisting with management accounts and monthly reporting

• Liaising with external accountants and auditors

• Ensuring all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting principles

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric and a relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification

• Minimum of 3 years' proven bookkeeping experience (preferably in a retail or fuel environment)

• Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Sage Pastel, Xero, or QuickBooks)

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy

• Experience with point-of-sale systems and fuel reporting systems advantageous

• Sound understanding of VAT and statutory compliance

• Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy

• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently

• Strong organizational and communication skills

Working Hours:

• Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend support as required
