Our client in the Manufacturing Industry is currently looking to employ a Safety Officer, based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
Requirements:

Matric / Grade 12 Certificate.

National Diploma in Safety Management (preferred) or SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification.

Knowledge and working experience of the OSH Act, ISO standards, Environmental, Noise and Energy regulations.

Familiarity with safety systems and procedures including DIFR, IOD reporting, and risk assessments.

Minimum of 3 years of SHEE (Safety-Health-Environment-Energy) experience in a manufacturing environment.

Computer literacy in MS Office Suite, especially MS Word and Excel.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Strong supervisory and leadership qualities.
Responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities:
-
Ensure compliance with OSH Act, ISO, Environmental, Noise & Energy legislation and standards applicable to the factory.
-
Conduct and update HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments) and Environmental Impact Assessments.

Provide SHEE consultation and advice to all departments, in collaboration with the SHEEQ Manager.
-
Implement and maintain health and safety programs, procedures, SOPs, and SWPs.
-
Investigate and report on incidents and implement preventative strategies.
-
Conduct regular inspections and audits (daily, weekly, monthly) and close out findings with relevant teams.
-
Lead SHEE induction and training sessions for new and existing employees.
-
Compile and manage all SHEE documentation, including registers, reports, and audit findings.

Attend and contribute to SHEEQ, HSE, and production meetings with relevant feedback and planning.

Supervise and support SHE Representatives and promote a strong safety culture throughout the workplace.

Issue permits to work and ensure contractor safety file compliance.
-
Identify hazardous waste, ensure correct disposal, and maintain environmental compliance.

Coordinate and support internal and external SHEE audits and drive readiness for compliance.

Promote safety initiatives such as toolbox talks, safety bulletins, and awareness campaigns.

Assist with updating and maintaining online document systems (e.g. SharePoint).

Participate in continuous improvement processes and help maintain business plans and safety KPIs.
Development and Training:
-
Maintain personal and professional development in safety-related areas.
-
Attend training, workshops, and sessions as required by the SHEQ department.
Reporting and Administration:
-
Maintain detailed records of SHEE activities, meetings, and compliance documents.
-
Prepare safety reports and analysis for internal use and audits.
-
Assist with general administrative duties to support SHEEQ compliance and department operations.

Perform additional duties within the scope of SHEE responsibilities as required by the Compliance Manager or Manufacturing Director.
