Our client in the Automotive Component Manufacturing Industry, is currently looking to employ an experienced Toolmaker, based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
Requirements:

Matric (NQF 4).
-
Trade Test: Toolmaker (NQF 5).
-
Up to 3 years’ Technical, Maintenance and Toolmaking experience in a manufacturing environment.

Minimum 3 years’ experience using tool-room machinery (lathes, mills, etc.).
-
Basic Computer Literacy (MS Office; SAP/ERP systems and other job-specific software).
-
Knowledge of relevant maintenance practices, designs, methodologies, and standard operating procedures.

Knowledge of housekeeping and safety principles.
-
CNC experience advantageous.

Strong problem-solving, analytical and planning skills.
-
Good verbal and written communication skills.
-
Resilient, proactive, action-oriented and customer-focused.
Responsibilities:
-
Manufacture new tooling and additional spares to support production activity and meet customer deadlines.
-
Perform repairs, maintenance, and improvements on tooling, jigs, moulds, and fixtures.

Conduct routine servicing, breakdown repairs, and preventative maintenance on production line tooling.
-
Perform root cause analysis for breakdowns and implement corrective actions.
-
Manage engineering level changes and modifications to tools within set timeframes.

Support new project tooling from commissioning through to start of production.

Assist in tooling buyoffs, trials, and continuous improvement activities.
-
Record tooling data and maintenance records in the Tool Room database.

Ensure compliance with high-quality standards, regulations, and company targets.

Work within 5S methodology to maintain order and cleanliness in the workplace.

Identify and escalate any risks, breakdown causes, equipment faults, and concerns.

Provide operational support to production teams, artisans, and apprentices.

Train and mentor junior staff and apprentices within the workgroup.

Test and confirm tool operation (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic) before releasing to production.

Maintain effective relationships with staff and relevant departments to ensure efficient workflow.

Promote compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

Ensure personal protective equipment is correctly used and any issues reported timeously.

Monitor and control tooling expenditure, ensuring waste and costs are minimized.
-
Participate in meetings and provide feedback on tooling performance and operational issues.
