Description

Our client, based in Port Elizabeth, is seeking a practical, hands-on Building / Maintenance Supervisor, to oversee the maintenance, repairs, and modernisation projects of the organization’s fixed and movable property, facilities, and infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 + Years’ hands-on experience in Building / Maintenance / Construction / Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in supervising a team.
  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical problems related to maintenance and construction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of building trades.
  • Knowledgeable on building regulations and property bylaws.
  • Knowledgeable on Health & Safety legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Computer Literate (MS Office).

Main Duties:

Maintenance Planning and Execution

  • Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance of building structures, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ensure job cards are completed within stipulated time frames.
  • Ensure Property Department processes are adhered to.

Physical Monthly Walk Abouts to Inspect all Sites

  • Focus on identifying potential issues before they escalate.
  • Conduct comprehensive maintenance assessments to ensure the new financial year budget aligns with necessary actions.

Village Modernisation & Upgrades

  • Manage small to medium-sized modernisation projects with a solid understanding of construction trades.

Supplier Oversight

  • Supervise contractors, ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to budgets, timelines, and compliance with building regulations.

Resident Interaction

  • Act as the point of contact for on-site issues, requiring empathy, patience, and clear communication, particularly when dealing with elderly residents.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Head of Property, providing clear updates on maintenance activities, costs, and project progress.

Emergencies

  • First point of contact for afterhours emergency escalations.
  • Emergency response plan already in place, serious escalations to be reported to the Head of Property.
