Description

Our client, a well-established organisation operating within the fresh produce and logistics industry, is seeking to employ an experienced Fruit & Vegetable Dispatch & Receiving Supervisor to join their operations team. This role is based in Greenbushes, Port Elizabeth.

Requirements 

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Diploma or certificate in logistics, supply chain, or related field (advantageous)
  • 3–5 years in warehouse, logistics, or fresh produce handling
  • At least 1–2 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of fresh produce handling and quality standards
  • Inventory management and stock control skills
  • Leadership and team management abilities
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills (inventory systems, Excel)

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Receiving Operations

  • Supervise the offloading of incoming fruit and vegetable deliveries
  • Verify quantities, quality, and condition of produce against delivery notes
  • Ensure proper documentation and recording of all incoming stock
  • Reject or report damaged, spoiled, or incorrect items

Dispatch Operations

  • Plan and coordinate daily dispatch schedules
  • Ensure orders are picked, packed, and loaded accurately and on time
  • Verify outgoing shipments match customer orders and invoices
  • Monitor transport conditions to maintain freshness and quality

Inventory Control

  • Maintain accurate stock records and inventory levels
  • Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile discrepancies
  • Implement FIFO (First-In, First-Out) or FEFO (First-Expired, First-Out) systems
  • Minimize waste, spoilage, and shrinkage

Quality & Food Safety

  • Ensure all produce meets quality standards before storage and dispatch
  • Enforce hygiene, health, and safety regulations
  • Monitor storage conditions (temperature, humidity, cleanliness)
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP)

Team Supervision

  • Supervise warehouse staff, loaders, and pickers
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor performance
  • Train staff on handling procedures and safety practices
  • Address performance issues and maintain team discipline

Logistics & Coordination

  • Liaise with suppliers, drivers, and internal departments (sales, procurement)
  • Resolve delays, shortages, or delivery issues
  • Optimize workflow to improve efficiency and turnaround time

Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of stock movement and incidents
  • Prepare daily/weekly reports on receiving and dispatch activities
  • Track KPIs such as order accuracy, waste levels, and turnaround time

Working Conditions

  • Warehouse environment (may include cold storage areas)
  • Early mornings, weekends, or shift work may be required
  • Physically demanding (standing, lifting, moving stock)
