Description

Our client in the chemical manufacturing and distribution industry is seeking to employ an experienced Chemical Buyer / Procurement Officer to join their procurement team based in Heriotdale, Johannesburg.

The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing local and international chemical suppliers, managing procurement processes, coordinating imports, and ensuring the continuous supply of raw materials while maintaining compliance with hazardous chemical regulations and company procedures.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field advantageous
  • Proven buying or procurement experience
  • Experience within the chemical industry essential
  • Experience dealing with imports and hazardous goods
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong administration and record-keeping ability
  • Computer literacy and experience working on procurement systems
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Responsibilities:

  • Source local and international suppliers for chemicals.
  • Obtain and compare quotations, pricing, and lead times.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contracts, and supply agreements.
  • Place purchase orders accurately and timeously.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure continuous supply of materials.
  • Coordinate imports, shipping, and clearing requirements where applicable.
  • Ensure all required documentation is obtained and maintained, including:
    • SDS (Safety Data Sheets)
    • COA (Certificate of Analysis)
    • TDS (Technical Data Sheets)
    • Import and compliance documentation
  • Work closely with warehouse, sales, production, and logistics teams.
  • Track supplier performance regarding pricing, quality, and delivery.
  • Resolve supplier issues, shortages, damages, and non-conformance matters.
  • Ensure procurement complies with company policies and hazardous chemical regulations.
  • Maintain accurate supplier and purchasing records on the system.
  • Assist with forecasting and inventory planning.
  • Arrange transport and delivery coordination when required.
