Our client, a well-established organisation operating within the manufacturing and construction industry, is seeking to employ an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join their Operations team based in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
This role is ideally suited to a technically strong and hands-on individual with solid workshop, production, stock control, maintenance, and site management experience within a manufacturing or construction environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing workshop operations, production activities, quality control, stock management, installations, maintenance, and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent Technical Certificate
- Tertiary qualification in Production Management, Stock Management, or related field advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Workshop Mechanic OR within a Factory / Production environment
- Experience within the construction industry essential
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Working at Heights certification essential
- Basic electrical knowledge and applications (electrical qualification advantageous)
- Ability to work with hand tools and power tools
- Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong technical fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Site management experience
- Valid South African Driver’s License and own transport
- Welding experience:
- TIG Welding
- Arc Welding
- CO2 Welding
- Spot Welding
- Risk Assessment qualification advantageous
Responsibilities:
Factory Facilities and Housekeeping
- Ensure all tools, machinery, and equipment are maintained and in working order
- Report damaged or broken tools and follow up on repairs or replacements
- Conduct monthly inspections on safety equipment and PPE
- Maintain workshop facilities, buildings, security, and surrounding areas
- Perform routine maintenance on production equipment and facilities
- Reduce scrap and operational waste
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations
- Maintain clean, organised, and safe workshop environments
Production Management
- Identify and communicate production risks or delays proactively
- Ensure products are manufactured according to customer specifications
- Participate in production planning and operations meetings
- Monitor production quality and timelines
- Support workshop and customer site operations when required
Quality Control
- Ensure quality standards and procedures are maintained
- Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions
- Conduct quality inspections and maintain documentation
- Recommend process improvements to enhance product quality
Installations, Service and Maintenance
- Conduct site inspections and measurements for installations and maintenance
- Perform installations, repairs, servicing, and maintenance of products
- Ensure all work is completed to company and customer standards
Stock Management
- Control stock issuing, receiving, dispatching, and returns
- Ensure stock is stored correctly and accurately labelled
- Monitor stock discrepancies, shortages, and excess stock
- Oversee offloading of containers and stock receiving processes
- Assist with stock counts and inventory control
- Maintain organised storage systems and warehouse efficiency
Customer Service
- Deliver professional customer service and maintain positive client relationships
- Provide customers with product information and support
- Identify opportunities for additional sales and product solutions
- Represent the company professionally at all times
Human Resources and Compliance
- Monitor staff performance and productivity
- Ensure staff comply with company procedures and policies
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Support training, toolbox talks, and safety initiatives
