Requirements:
- Qualified Millwright with completed apprenticeship or equivalent apprenticeship training.
- Section 13 or Section 26D Trade Test Certificate as a Millwright (Electro-Mechanician).
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience maintaining large electrical and mechanical installations.
- Strong electrical background with the ability to troubleshoot accurately and efficiently.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with SCADA and PLC control systems will be advantageous.
- Experience with field control instrumentation will be advantageous.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance principles.
- Extensive knowledge of centrifugal pumps, including slurry and clean-water applications.
- Strong understanding of positive displacement pumps, including diaphragm, screw, and peristaltic pumps.
- Knowledge of pump alignment, fault diagnosis, vibration causes, and bearing failures.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Working knowledge of Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and soft starters, including setup, fault finding, and parameter verification.
- Basic instrumentation knowledge, including pH, ORP, and conductivity probes, calibration, and fault finding.
- Electrical fault-finding experience on low-voltage systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical schematics.
- Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Knowledge of lubrication systems and practices.
- Sound understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and/or Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) in South Africa.
- Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Ensure effective application and adherence to the Computerised Maintenance Management System (MaintainX).
- Ensure all plant assets are clearly identified, marked, and controlled through an accurate Asset Register.
- Attend to breakdowns promptly and prioritise maintenance jobs according to operational requirements.
- Plan and perform routine servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment in a professional and cost-effective manner.
- Ensure compliance with planned maintenance schedules and maintenance windows.
- Monitor and report on the condition and performance of electro-mechanical plant equipment.
- Ensure adherence to predictive and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Manage and coordinate the maintenance team and ensure effective utilisation of available resources.
- Implement and manage artisan standby rosters, overtime, leave schedules, and skills development programmes.
- Enforce appropriate discipline in accordance with company procedures.
- Conduct weekly toolbox talks with the maintenance team.
- Conduct regular maintenance forward planning and lead weekly maintenance meetings.
- Prepare and submit maintenance reports as required.
- Assist with hands-on maintenance activities during non-high-risk work.
- Oversee high-risk maintenance activities during weekends and after hours when required.
- Assist with contractor management for maintenance-related activities on site.
- Monitor contractor performance and service-level agreements.
- Assist with the coordination and escorting of filter press and lime delivery trucks when required.
- Assist with specifications, sourcing, quality control, refurbishment, and repair of equipment.
- Assist with pricing, tendering, and implementation of new electrical, mechanical, and civil installations.
- Manage maintenance spares and ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
- Ensure approved and contractually required maintenance spares are available when needed.
- Apply sound human resource, administration, and control procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company, client, MHSA/OHSA, and applicable ISO requirements.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, health, and safety.
- Take responsibility for applicable legal safety appointments in accordance with MHSA/OHSA requirements.
- Participate in client safety meetings and ensure safety files are maintained.
- Ensure statutory inspections are completed as required.
- Apply lock-out/tag-out procedures in accordance with company requirements.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and/or 5 Why investigations to identify the causes of recurring problems.
- Implement corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.
- Control, analyse, and maintain accurate CMMS information and use the data as a management tool.
- Liaise with client representatives to coordinate maintenance activities and operational requirements.
- Build and maintain professional client relationships.
- Provide effective feedback and reporting to management and clients.
- Develop practical, cost-effective solutions during breakdown situations.
- Mentor and guide junior artisans and contribute to skills development.
- Maintain a solution-focused and continuous-improvement approach.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
- Perform standby duties and work extended hours when operational requirements dictate.
